Afghanistan is a country that has been ravaged by four decades of conflict that has left millions of women widowed and millions orphaned. With a 90 percent poverty rate, many young children find themselves heading up homes and trying to provide for their families by removing garbage or selling packets in the streets. Our “Bread of Hope” program provides nourishment so that families do not have to worry about finding food and focus on bettering their lives in many other aspects.
AMA runs six bakeries in Afghanistan, empowering those who work in them as well as distributing free bread to identified families. These families are Widowed and Orphaned homes with little and most times no food.
Besides alleviating hunger, these bakeries provide hope to the families of those employed at the bakeries, providing skill and an opportunity to empower their extended families.
