Description
Provide warmth to premature babies at hospitals. Low Birth weight babies (< 2.5kg) do not have the necessary warmth. The cosy baby drive will support hundreds of babies at RK Khan Hospital with pre-term clothing and blankets.
Hypothermia is defined by the World Health Organization as a core temperature < 36.5° C (97.7° F). In premature infants, hypothermia increases morbidity and mortality.
According to the World Health Organization, the condition is prevalent in every continent. The most significant ramifications are often seen in developing and low-resource areas around the world, where awareness of the issue is only beginning to be brought forth.
In our South African setting many of our patients will need to get home via public transport or walking in temperatures that are not appropriate for a new-born who does not have adequate clothing on.
Your support will provide each baby with a winter warmth package that includes a hat, romper and a blanket.
